Made to order, at a cost you can plan around
The garment is cut to your measurements, but on a base block and from a shorter list of cloth — which is what keeps the price down.
Economy tailoring does the same work as made-to-measure, with two differences: the cloth is chosen from a shorter list, and the making details are settled on the house standards rather than picked one by one. The measuring, the pattern and the fitting are exactly the same.
Cloth is not sold online. It is chosen with a specialist in store and cut to the length you need.

Guide
Who it suits
If this is your first tailored garment, economy tailoring is the sensible place to start: you see what a garment cut to your own measurements does, without paying the full cost to find out.
It is also the more sensible choice for the clothes that get worn hardest and are not expected to last a decade — an everyday office suit.
What does not change
The measuring, the pattern cut for your body, the fitting and the free minor alterations — none of these is dropped in economy tailoring. The difference is the range of choice, not the quality of the work.
